The Project

The European insurance sector is exposed to a process of far-reaching changes, driven to a large degree particularly in Germany by demographic trends.

This change process affects the sector not only as a provider of personal products and services, but as an employer too. It is intensifying the competition for well-trained workers, who play a key role in corporate success, especially in the insurance business with its high level of qualification requirements.

In the light of the growing shortage of specialist staff, attractive working conditions are becoming increasingly important.

Many companies in the European insurance sector have therefore already started to review their recruitment strategies and operating structures. The European sectoral employer and employee representatives have at the same time launched a demography project as part of their Sectoral Social Dialogue. This is unique within the European social partnership in the way it supports companies in their efforts.

The following pages provide an insight into the European sectoral project by the social partners and also present how selected German companies are handling the demographic challenges in the insurance sector.
